The coal-based thermal power plant in Rampal, Bagerhat, is set to commence commercial production of its second unit by August 2023, according to authorities. The trial run for supplying 660 MW of electricity from the second unit to the national grid was successfully completed on June 28. Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company (BIFPCL) announced that the second unit will soon provide a regular supply of 660 MW of electricity to the national grid. However, the authorities did not provide a specific timeline for when the first unit will resume operations. The Maitri Super Thermal Power Project’s first 660 MW unit has been operational since December 2022. The completion of the second unit, achieved through strategic planning and dedicated efforts, reflects the strong bond and friendship between Bangladesh and India, as stated by the BIFPCL Managing Director.
