Rancon Motors has partnered with Genex Infrastructure to establish 21 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations nationwide before April 2024. These stations, comprising seven in Dhaka and 14 in key locations across Bangladesh, aim to support the launch of Mercedes-Benz’s EQ series of EVs. The initiative comes as EV sales in Bangladesh have recently commenced, with approximately 80 units registered with the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority. Rancon’s move to set up charging stations underscores the growing importance of EVs in the country’s automotive market. Notably, EVs enjoy lower import taxes compared to fossil fuel vehicles, making them an attractive option for consumers. Rancon plans to offer complimentary charging for one year, with future plans to replace traditional fuel stations with EV charging points. The stations will strategically cover premium hotels, tourist spots, highways, malls, and commercial areas, reflecting a commitment to environmental sustainability and advancing electric mobility in Bangladesh.
