Over the past few years, the ceramic industry in Bangladesh has experienced significant growth, driven by increased purchasing power and changing consumer preferences. Domestic entrepreneurs have made substantial investments in the sector, aiming to reduce import reliance and manufacture high-quality tiles within the country. As a result, domestic companies now control approximately 86% of the tiles market, indicating a strong preference for locally-made products.
The Bangladesh Ceramic Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BCMEA) reports that the ceramic products market in the country is valued at around BDT 7,250 crores, with tiles accounting for the largest share of sales. In 2021- 2022, domestic tile sales reached BDT 4,506 crores out of a total of BDT 5,219 crores. The ceramic industry employs around 500,000 individuals, including a significant number of women, and has attracted investments totaling approximately BDT 9,000 crores. With the current production capacity reaching 21 crore square meters annually, the sector is poised for further expansion. The government’s supportive policies and a growing infrastructure sector are also contributing factors to the industry’s success.
