In June 2024, Bangladesh received a record-breaking $2 billion in remittances within the first 23 days, driven by increased transfers during Eid-ul-Azha. This marks the third consecutive month where remittances surpassed the $2 billion mark, following $2.25 billion in May and $2.04 billion in April, according to Bangladesh Bank data. For the first half of FY24, remittances were as follows: July $1.97 billion, August $1.59 billion, September $1.33 billion, October $1.98 billion, November $1.93 billion, and December $1.99 billion. The uptick in remittance inflows through formal channels has been attributed to government initiatives and incentives aimed at stabilizing foreign exchange reserves, despite a slow start at the beginning of the fiscal year. In 2023, Bangladesh received a total of $21.92 billion in remittances, showing a 2.88% increase from 2022’s $21.29 billion.
