Bangladesh experienced a 17.06% increase in remittance inflow, reaching $1.99 billion in December 2023 compared to the same period in 2022. This positive trend contributed to a cumulative inflow of $10.79 billion during the first half of the current fiscal year (FY) 2023–24. The surge is attributed to efforts by banks to enhance dollar flow, with some flexibility in the dollar rate permitted by the Bangladesh Bank. While the Association of Bankers, Bangladesh, and Bangladesh Foreign Exchange Dealers Association set a maximum rate, banks often buy remittance dollars at higher rates. The cumulative remittance earnings for July to December in FY23 stood at $10.49 billion, showcasing a continuous upward trend.
