Remittance inflows surged by approximately 22% YoY in the first 22 days of December 2023, reaching $1.57 billion, attributed to favorable exchange rates, notably up to Tk122 for a dollar. Analysts predict the total may surpass $2 billion by month-end if the trend persists. Banks, aiming to boost year-end dollar flows, have implemented measures to enhance remittance inflows. Despite the Association of Bankers, Bangladesh, and the Bangladesh Foreign Exchange Dealers Association setting a maximum dollar rate of Tk109.50, many banks are buying remittance dollars at Tk122. The Bangladesh Bank, previously strict on rates, has displayed flexibility. While remittance flows increased, the total inflow for the current fiscal year has decreased by 4.19% YoY, totaling $9.66 billion from July to December 22.
