Renewable energy is projected to be the most cost-effective option for Bangladesh to meet its growing electricity demand in the long term, according to a report by Bloomberg analyzed by the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD). The report, titled “Bangladesh Power Sector at the Crossroads,” states that the Levelised Cost of Electricity (LCOE) from renewable sources is expected to decrease significantly by 2030 and 2050. Currently, the LCOE for a new utility-scale solar project ranges from $97-135 per Mega Watt hour (MWh), making it competitive with conventional sources. CPD emphasized the importance of transitioning to renewable energy to ensure a sustainable and cost-effective energy future for Bangladesh.
