Retired bankers can rejoin banks as directors, said a Bangladesh Bank circular on 3rd September 2023.” Officials from any bank can become directors of the bank five years after retirement or expiry of the contract,” reads the circular. The central bank has extended reappointment facilities from NBFIs to banks, allowing individuals with prior financial institution experience to serve as board members.
Earlier, in 2021, the appointment of retired bankers was restricted to board members of the same bank they served. This change aligns with the Bangladesh Bank’s previous restrictions on appointing individuals with such backgrounds in August 2022.
