From July to January of FY25, revenue collection fell 21% short of the target, with Tk 1.95 trillion collected against a Tk 2.46 trillion goal. The National Board of Revenue (NBR) must now collect Tk 535.27 billion per month from February to June to meet the revised Tk 4.63 trillion target. Monthly collections averaged Tk 300 billion but surged to Tk 354 billion in January, reflecting a 7% YoY growth but still 5.11% below the target. VAT collections rose 4%, income tax 3.59%, and import duties 1.02%. However, the income tax wing had the largest shortfall at 27.5%, followed by VAT (16.41%) and import-export tax (17.45%). Until January, VAT collections stood at Tk 735.66 billion, income tax at Tk 640.84 billion, and import-export taxes at Tk 582.1 billion. To meet the fiscal year’s goal, NBR must raise Tk 2.67 trillion in the next five months.
