Rising Load shedding Spurs Surge in Generator and IPS Prices

Industry: Energy & Power, Power

In response to prolonged load shedding causing inconvenience to the population, the prices of IPS and generators have seen a substantial increase. Complications in importing via LC have restricted supply, driving up demand and forcing traders to sell at higher prices. The country’s largest IPS and generator market, Nawabpur Road Market, has witnessed significant price hikes. For instance, a two-kilowatt Honda generator now costs around Tk 36,000 compared to Tk 24,000 to Tk 26,000 a year ago.

Other generator brands have experienced similar price increases. IPS prices have also surged, with a 1050 VA Luminus IPS priced at Tk 15,500, up from Tk 8,000 to Tk 9,000 previously. Buyers are expressing concerns about dishonest traders selling counterfeit generators at inflated prices. Despite these challenges, the demand for generators has multiplied, leading to a shortage in the market. The price rise can be attributed to factors such as increased load-shedding, a stronger dollar, higher port costs, and rising demand.
