The readymade garment (RMG) sector is poised to experience a gradual reduction of 0.5% in export incentives every six months, as part of the government’s plan to eliminate all cash stimulus for exports by July 2026, ahead of the country’s scheduled graduation from Least Developed Country (LDC) status.
The Ministry of Finance’s roadmap, already in effect since January this year with initial cuts in cash incentives, outlines a phased reduction in export incentives for all sectors before complete removal by July 2026. To compensate, export industries will receive alternative support measures, including up to 10% electricity tariff waivers, exemption of licensing fees, and importing capital machinery and spare parts with a maximum 1% duty.
Regarding the scale of cash support, the current fiscal year’s budget allocates Tk15,225 crore for export and remittance incentives, with RMG exporters receiving about 70% of the total funds. The Ministry of Finance plans to reduce the cash incentive rate in the RMG sector by 0.5% every January and July over the next three fiscal years, ultimately withdrawing it by June 2026.
