Bangladesh’s garment exports to the USA dropped by 14.44% year-on-year to $2.3 billion from January to April 2024. This decline mirrors a broader reduction in global apparel imports by American buyers, driven by inflationary pressures on consumers. The combined export of textiles and garments to the USA also fell by 14.15% to $2.38 billion, according to the Office of Textiles and Apparel (OTEXA) under the US Department of Commerce. Exporters attribute the downturn to cautious purchasing by US clothing retailers and brands amidst high inflation.
