The Finance Division has provided a $300 million compensation guarantee to facilitate the import of nuclear fuel for the Rooppur nuclear power plant (RNPP), which is under construction. This guarantee is in accordance with international law and is intended to cover potential damages in case of a nuclear accident during fuel transportation or at the power plant itself.
Notably, the Russian contractor company for the project, JSC AtomstroyExport, is not assuming any financial responsibility in this matter. The Rooppur nuclear power plant, comprising two 1200 MW units for a total capacity of 2400 MW, is located in Ishwardi Upazila of Pabna. The nuclear fuel is expected to arrive in October and will be transported from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to the power plant under strict supervision and security measures. This compensation guarantee aligns with regulations requiring insurance for nuclear power plants during fuel transport.
