The Russian vessel MV Yamal Orlan arrived at Mongla Port in Khulna, Bangladesh, carrying equipment for the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) under construction in Pabna. The ship, loaded with 2,121 tonnes of machinery, docked at the port’s 8th jetty and began unloading its cargo, which consisted of 668 packages. Most of the goods will be transported to the RNPP depot by road, with some being shipped via the river.
The arrival of foreign vessels carrying equipment for development projects like the RNPP highlights the increasing interest in using Mongla Port, which has seen a significant capacity expansion in recent years. To further enhance its capabilities, an inner bar dredging project is ongoing to achieve an 8.5-meter channel depth, enabling the handling of ships with a draft of 10 meters at the Mongla Port jetty. This development aligns with the growing importance of Mongla Port for importers, exporters, and users in the region.
