The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) in Bangladesh is set to receive crucial radiation monitoring equipment soon. Automated process control systems (APCS) for unit-1 and unit-2 have been shipped from Russia by Rosatom’s affiliate, SNIIP. The shipment includes 15 radiation monitoring units for unit-1 and 8 for unit-2, with additional dosimetry equipment to arrive by the end of the year.
These systems, custom-designed for RNPP, will play a vital role in monitoring radiation levels and ensuring safety. Dosimeters for plant personnel will also be shipped later this year, while the main equipment will arrive earlier. SNIIP CEO Alexander Kartsev emphasized the importance of these systems for the plant’s startup preparation. Previously, SNIIP supplied continuous radiation monitoring systems and a unique dosimetry tracking system for RNPP personnel. The Automated Radiation Monitoring System (ARMS) will collect and display radiation data, ensuring safety at the plant.
The RNPP, featuring two power units with a total capacity of 2,400 MW, is powered by Russian VVER-1200 Generation III+ reactors, which meet international safety standards. The project is being developed with Russia’s technical and financial support, with Rosatom Engineering Division as the general contractor.
