The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant’s external telecommunication network project, approved in 2022, has faced severe delays, with less than 1 percent completion after two years. The implementing agency, BTCL, proposes a 91 percent cost increase from Tk 378.84 crore to Tk 724 crore and a two-year extension to June 2026. The delay is attributed to complications in finalizing a contract with a Russian consulting firm and changes in project scope and equipment needs. The project’s progress stands at only 0.01 percent, with an actual expenditure of Tk 4.82 crore. The project was originally scheduled to be completed by March 2024. Additionally, concerns about project management and corruption, including a previous scandal involving inflated costs for supplies, have been raised.
