Russian officials have discussed the potential supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG), wheat, and fertilizers to Bangladesh during a recent visit. Despite external pressures, Bangladesh’s approach has been commended for aligning with its national interests. Both countries are looking to enhance trade and investment ties, with a particular focus on advancing the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project. In recent years, bilateral trade has exceeded $2 billion, but it faced a 21.4% decline in 2022 due to global circumstances. To counter this negative trend, the Intergovernmental Russian-Bangladeshi Commission on Trade, Economic, and Scientific-Technical Cooperation will explore measures. The commission aims to strengthen economic cooperation and leverage Russian expertise in traditional energy sectors. This visit marks an important development in their evolving partnership.
