Russia Donates 30,000 Tonnes of Potash Fertiliser

Industry: Fertilizer
Economic Tag: Foreign Aid

Russia has announced the donation of 30,000 metric tonnes of Muriate of Potash (MoP) fertilizer to Bangladesh as a gesture of friendship and cooperation. The CEO of Russia’s second-largest ammonia and nitrogen fertilizer company, Uralchem, conveyed this decision in a letter to the Agriculture Ministry. The letter was formally handed over by the Acting Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh to the Agriculture Adviser on 20 November 2024. The fertilizer will be supplied free of cost through the World Food Programme (WFP) of the United Nations to support global food security efforts.

Previously, in 2013, Uralkali PJSC, another major Russian fertilizer producer, supplied one million metric tonnes of MoP fertilizer to Bangladesh under a government-to-government agreement. This latest initiative underscores Russia’s continued commitment to strengthening agricultural ties with Bangladesh and addressing global food security challenges through strategic partnerships.
