Russia has sought Bangladesh’s cooperation to ensure the continued operations of Gazprom International in gas exploration, which has been active in the country since 2012. In 2023, Gazprom identified five new wells in Bhola for exploration. In 2024, Russia reached an all-time high in wheat exports to Bangladesh, making it the second-largest consumer of Russian grain after Egypt, with 2.3 million tonnes delivered, including 623,000 tonnes under government contracts. Additionally, Russia plans to supply 30,000 tonnes of muriate of potash fertilizer as a gesture of goodwill. The number of visas issued to Bangladeshis seeking work in agriculture and shipbuilding in Russia increased significantly, with visa issuance from January to March 2025 being four times higher than the previous year. The two nations also discussed broader trade relations during the meeting.
