The Saidpur 150 Megawatt (MW) Simple Cycle High-Speed Diesel (HSD) Power Plant project has experienced another change in contract type and project duration. Initially set from January 2019 to June 2021, the timeline has now been extended to June 2025, marking the fourth extension.
The project, implemented by the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), involves Tk 564 crore financed through a Chinese loan, acknowledged by the Finance Division. Due to delays, the project’s loan period has also been extended, prompting amendments with Bank of China Limited.
The project’s cost has risen from an initial Tk 1,001 crore to Tk 1,250 crore. This increase is attributed to the construction of an additional fuel line and funnel modifications. The government’s share is Tk 309.32 crore, BPDB’s contribution is Tk 376.5 crore, and the loan covers the rest.
