In the first half of FY 2023-24, net sales of state-sponsored savings instruments in Bangladesh experienced negative growth, declining by over Tk 60.63 billion ($707 million) year-on-year. The negative trend in net sales of national savings deposits continued to expand in December, indicating a lack of confidence in these government borrowing tools. Factors contributing to this decline include inflationary pressure, financial crises, reduced bank profitability, and challenging investment conditions. The rate of encashment exceeded the volume of sales during this period, highlighting a preference for higher-paying encashment over new investments in savings certificates.
