The commerce ministry has approved seven firms to import 4.5 crore eggs to boost local supply and tackle rising prices. The companies must complete their imports by December 31, 2024. Dhaka-based M/S Mim Enterprise, M/S Prime Care Bangladesh, and Jashore-based M/S Tawsin Traders will each import one crore eggs, while the remaining four firms will collectively import 1.5 crore eggs. This decision follows a recent price increase, with four eggs now costing Tk 54-Tk 58, up nearly 5% from Tk 52-Tk 55 last month. Bangladesh requires around five crore eggs daily, mainly sourced from western regions such as Tangail and Jashore.
