The arrival of ‘MV GCL Paradip’ at Matarbari deep-sea port marks another significant development in Bangladesh’s power sector. The Panama-flagged vessel, carrying 64,770 tonnes of coal, arrived from Tarhan port in Indonesia. The coal will be utilized for the 1,200 MW Matarbari ultra supercritical coal-fired power project, managed by the Coal Power Generation Company Bangladesh Limited. This shipment is part of a series of four deliveries, totaling 250,000 tonnes of coal, that have reached the port in recent months to support the power plant. ‘MV GCL Paradip’ is one of the largest ships to dock at the Matarbari jetty, measuring 230 meters in length with a draft of 12.5 meters. The successful delivery of coal highlights progress in the implementation of the power project and contributes to Bangladesh’s energy goals.
