The sixth consignment of uranium for Bangladesh’s Rooppur Nuclear Power Project’s first unit has safely arrived in Pabna’s Rooppur under tight security measures. Law enforcement agencies ensured the safe transportation of the uranium, with traffic movement on the highway from Dhaka to Rooppur temporarily suspended during the convoy’s passage.
The Rooppur project aims to become a significant power generator, with the first unit expected to commence operations in July 2024, followed by the second unit in July 2025. When both units are operational, the nuclear power plant will have a capacity of 2,400 MW. Bangladesh’s entry into the world’s nuclear power-producing countries reflects its ongoing commitment to the project, which is proceeding well toward completion.
