In Bangladesh, rising food prices have reached such heights that essentials are now considered luxuries for many, according to the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD). Despite having a lower GDP per capita compared to countries like Brazil and Colombia, Bangladeshis spend more on food annually than residents of these nations. The country has been grappling with inflation rates exceeding those of many developed and developing economies for nearly two years, significantly impacting the purchasing power of poor and low-income households. In the current financial year alone, the Consumer Price Index has surged by an average of 9.73% in the first 10 months. These economic challenges underscore the urgent need for effective measures to alleviate the burden on vulnerable populations and stabilize the economy.
