In Lakshmipur during the current rabi season, soybean cultivation spans 39,640 hectares with a production target of 85,040 tons. Currently, soybeans have been harvested from 1,740 hectares, representing 5% of the total cultivated land. The favorable weather conditions and strategic farming practices such as timely seeding and balanced fertilizer usage have contributed to a successful yield without disease outbreaks. The agriculture department estimates a potential revenue of about 400 crore rupees from soybeans this year. Soybean production in Lakshmipur constitutes around 80% of the national output, with efforts to reduce import dependency by utilizing locally produced soybeans in the industrial sector. Varieties like BU-1, BU-2, Bari-5 and 6, Bina-5 and 6 are prominent among the high-yielding new soybean varieties cultivated in the region.
