Bangladesh’s fuel oil import system is set to undergo a transformation with the implementation of the Single Point Mooring (SPM) project, saving around Tk 800 crore annually. The SPM, built under a G2G project with China, will enable the offloading of fuel oil from mother vessels in just 48 hours, cutting the cost, time, and risks associated with current offloading through lighterage ships. The SPM has the capacity to unload 9 million tonnes of petroleum per year and is expected to be commissioned this year. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the SPM project in August 2023, marking a significant milestone in the country’s energy management system.
