Samuel S Chowdhury, chairman of Square Pharmaceuticals, plans to buy 15 lakh shares worth over Tk 32 crore within 30 working days through the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE). As of November 30, 2023, he held a 9.32% stake, which will rise to 9.49% after the purchase. Other sponsor directors, Tapan and Anjan Chowdhury, also announced similar purchases, with Anjan completing his transaction. As of January 2024, sponsors and directors held 42.91% of shares, while the public owned 27.67%, and foreign and institutional investors held 15.54% and 13.88%, respectively. Square Pharmaceuticals’ net profit rose 26% year-on-year to Tk 660 crore in Q2 FY 2024-25, bringing its half-year profit to Tk 1,269 crore, a 13% increase. However, in FY 2023-24, its profit after tax declined by 5.34% to Tk 1,559 crore. The company’s shares remained steady at Tk 217.5 on the DSE.
