Standard Chartered Bangladesh has partnered with BRAC to support farmers in Bangladesh’s haor areas, specifically Sunamganj and Habiganj, and address the challenges posed by climate change. The initiative includes providing farmers with resilient seed inputs, essential agricultural technologies, a path towards sustainable agricultural mechanization, post-harvest storage facilities, and various training opportunities. Furthermore, the project aims to safeguard lives and livelihoods by planting 30,000 palm trees to reduce lightning-related fatalities in these flood-prone regions.
A key focus of this collaboration is the introduction and integration of new agricultural technologies, known as agricultural mechanization, which significantly enhances the efficiency, effectiveness, and environmental sustainability of farming practices.
The CEO of Standard Chartered Bangladesh expressed the bank’s commitment to supporting modernization in agriculture, knowledge-sharing, and the welfare of local communities. The Executive Director of BRAC Bangladesh highlighted the importance of equipping marginalized farmers with advanced agricultural machinery and climate-resilient seeds to enhance productivity and reduce costs.
