The cultivation of summer cabbage has gained significant popularity in rajshahi, particularly in the vast Barind tract. Farmers have successfully grown cabbage on approximately 2,70,000 square feet of land. Cabbage cultivation during the summer season is on the rise as consumer demand grows.
The trend is supported by agricultural officers who are providing technical assistance to farmers, with around 70 enthusiastic farmers cultivating high-value crops on 9,450,000 square feet of land in the Iswaripur block of Dewpara Union alone. The cultivation of cauliflower and cabbage is spreading across the region, with Godagari, Paba, Puthiya, and Durgapur upazilas leading the way. This shift towards vegetable farming is not only financially rewarding for farmers but also contributes to reducing pressure on underground water resources, aligning with the ‘Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM)’ project’s goals.
