Recent floods in the Sylhet division have caused significant damage to agriculture, particularly to Aush paddy fields, with 15,268 hectares across four districts destroyed, resulting in losses exceeding Tk 188.74 crore. The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) had aimed to cultivate Aush paddy on 1,80,000 hectares this season, but the floods have drastically impacted these plans, with production now expected to fall significantly short of targets. Sylhet was the hardest hit, with 9,057 hectares of paddy fields damaged, leading to a loss of over Tk 102.70 crore. In Moulvibazar, 4,755 hectares were affected, while Habiganj and Sunamganj saw 463 and 1,013 hectares damaged, respectively.
