Tannery Workers Seek Tk 25,000 Minimum Wage

Due to rising living costs, Tannery workers in Bangladesh demand an increase in their minimum monthly salary from Tk13,500 to Tk25,000. The demand was made during a Stakeholder Consultation Meeting on Minimum Wage for the Tannery Industry. The government set up a minimum wage board to revise the existing wage, with representatives from both employers and workers. The workers emphasize the need for a higher salary to cope with inflation and increased expenses while awaiting a response from factory owners regarding the proposed wage hike.

Govt Sets Minimum Wage of Tk 18,001 for Tannery Workers

The Ministry of Labor and Employment has announced a new minimum wage structure for tannery workers under the Bangladesh Labor Act, 2006. Effective from November 2024, the minimum wage in divisional cities and Savar is Tk 18,001, while in other areas it is Tk 17,048. Compared to the 2018 rates, wages have increased by 33.34%, with five grades introduced.

Kohinoor Chemical Declares 50% Cash Dividend
