The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has extended the tax exemption period for foreigners working on the Dhaka Elevated Expressway by an additional three years until June 2026. This extension came into effect on July 1 following the expiration of the previous tax break on June 30.
Foreign nationals, including engineers and managers, involved in the construction of the expressway have enjoyed this tax exemption since 2012. The Dhaka Elevated Expressway, which partially opened recently, connects Shahjalal Airport to Kutubkhali on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway.
The project, initiated in 2011 as a public-private partnership with the Italian-Thai Development Public Company, underwent revisions and cost adjustments, ultimately reaching Tk 8,940 crore. The government and private partner share the funding, with completion scheduled for June 2024. This tax exemption aims to attract foreign expertise and investment in the project.
