In April, the government’s tax revenue earnings from the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) saw a 14.28% increase compared to the previous month, reaching Tk 20 crore. The slight rise in turnover contributed to the boost despite ongoing economic difficulties in the country. Tax revenue from trading right entitlement certificate holders’ commission rose by 16.86% to Tk 9.7 crore, while revenue from share sales by sponsor-directors and placement holders increased by 11.95% to Tk 10.3 crore.

However, the government’s revenue earnings from the DSE experienced a year-on-year drop of 33% or Tk 115.5 crore in the July-April period of the financial year 2022-23. The National Board of Revenue received Tk 234.5 crore in tax revenue from the DSE during this period, compared to Tk 350 crore in the same period of the previous year. The decline in market turnover and low share sales by sponsor-directors contributed to this downward trend.
