The recent internet blackout severely impacted IT companies and telecom operators in Bangladesh. IT firms fear losing foreign clients to countries like Vietnam, Nepal, and Singapore due to service disruptions. Some companies sent small teams abroad to maintain service continuity. The telecom industry reported a 35% drop in daily data revenue, with losses totaling around Tk 5 billion between July 16 and July 26. Protests against the government job quota system further exacerbated the situation, causing vandalism and additional losses. The blackout disrupted business operations, including back-office services, customer care, and data processing. The IT sector, contributing 1.25% to GDP and earning over $1.8 billion in exports last fiscal year, faces setbacks in global expansion. Companies lost revenue and clients due to communication breakdowns. The sector is yet to recover despite the restoration of internet services fully. Telecom operators also suffered from decreased data revenue but hope to recover through increased voice services.
