Thakurgaon Silk Factory Reopen After 21 Years

The Thakurgaon Silk Factory closed for 21 years, is resume operations on August 3, 2023. With 20 power looms and 20 hand looms, the factory will produce smooth silk fabric using silkworms’ yarn, benefiting around 5,000 silk farmers. The reopening is a result of the Supriya Group leasing the factory for five years, with plans to export silk fabric. Local MP n will inaugurate the reopening, and about 25-30 workers, including eight old factory workers, have been employed. The factory’s modernization work was completed in 1998, but it was shut down in 2002 due to reported losses. Now, the revival is expected to generate employment opportunities and meet the high demand for silk fabric both nationally and internationally.
