The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) received its third shipment of uranium fuel, which arrived via a special aircraft from Russia. The fuel was safely transported by road to the project area under army protection. The RNPP, which aims to establish a 2,400MW nuclear power plant, will receive seven fuel consignments for its initial unit 2023. Russia has been providing the fuel for power generation at no cost for three years. The first reactor was loaded in October 2021, and the second reactor was installed in October 2022. Once the nuclear fuel is loaded into the reactors, power generation can continue for a year before reloading is required. The RNPP is expected to become operational with the first unit in July 2024 and the second in July 2025.
