Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd. reported a substantial 62% year-on-year decline in net profit during H1 FY23–24, dropping to Tk46.82 crore from Tk124.91 crore. Despite the profit setback, the company witnessed an impressive 82% growth in revenue, reaching Tk17,184 crore, fueled by a government-mandated gas price hike.
Operational income from various sources, including meter rent and connection charges, increased by 50% to Tk605 crore. The profit dip is attributed to the government withdrawing the 2% system loss facility and a surge in operating expenses. The removal of the facility led to a 44% drop in gross profit and an operating loss of Tk120 crore.
However, Titas Gas offset losses with non-operating income of Tk189 crore from investments and fixed deposits. The company plans to issue irredeemable non-cumulative preference shares to the government to address financial needs.
