The national gas transmission line in Bangladesh faces a critical decline in pressure, rendering two compressor stations, costing Tk1,430 crore, inoperable. This exacerbates gas demand issues in various downstream areas. Petrobangla Chairman expressed concern, urging the Gas Transmission Company Limited (GTCL) to address the situation.
GTCL states that compressors can operate with increased gas volume, either through local production or higher LNG imports. The Ashuganj station, operational until 2021, faced challenges due to the ongoing gas and dollar crises. Energy experts emphasize the need for increased gas production and import. The current gas pressure, below expectations, hinders effective gas supply to end users. The situation is attributed to depleting local gas fields and challenges in LNG availability. Resolving the dollar crisis is crucial for the stations to resume operation.
