Bangladesh’s interim government has traced assets linked to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her family in six countries, including the US, UK, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the Cayman Islands, freezing over Tk 6.35 billion from 124 bank accounts and seizing properties worth Tk 88.5 million. Authorities also uncovered a case where Tk 4.0 billion was laundered under the pretext of a single semester’s tuition fees, highlighting sophisticated financial crimes during the previous administration. To expedite asset recovery, the government plans to introduce new legislation within the week and collaborate with international bodies to reclaim embezzled funds. These efforts are part of a broader initiative to combat corruption and restore economic stability following the previous regime’s ousting.
