Despite the government’s recent price regulation setting the price of eggs at Tk12 each, ensuring a maximum of Tk144 per dozen, some traders are employing tactics to flout the cap. In Mirpur’s kitchen markets, it was observed that traders categorized eggs into small, medium, and large sizes, with small eggs meeting the government-fixed price.
However, traders were selling medium and large eggs for Tk12.50 and Tk13 each, respectively, surpassing the government’s stipulations. Some grocers even sold a dozen eggs for Tk160. Traders justified the practices by citing higher costs and customer preferences for larger eggs. This situation raises concerns about customers facing deceptive practices and paying more than the regulated prices.
