The transport sector plans to surrender 15.32% of its budget allocation due to project delays. The proposed cut amounts to Tk 349.81 billion in the revised annual development programme for the current fiscal year. Agencies like Roads and Highways Department (RHD) and Dhaka Mass Transport Company Limited (DMTCL) are affected. DMTCL, managing Dhaka’s mass transit system, faces the steepest cut of 54%, reducing its allocation to Tk 37.71 billion. RHD, the largest holder of development funds, will surrender Tk 6.62 billion. The move raises concerns about project execution rates and potential impacts on the economy.
