Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) has restricted power supply to Bangladesh due to outstanding arrears amounting to Rs. 100 crore. The Managing Director stated that TSECL has been facing difficulties in receiving timely payments from the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), resulting in a year-long delay in bill payments.
Despite TSECL’s efforts to recover the dues, the financial strain caused by the overdue payments has impacted its operations. The corporation has reached out to BPDB and the Bangladesh Ministry of Electricity to expedite the settlement of the outstanding amount.
TSECL has negotiated with NVVN (NTPC Vidyut Biyar Nigam Limited) to ensure timely payments from Bangladesh, as part of an agreement to supply 160 MW of electricity from Tripura. However, due to the delayed payments, TSECL has limited the power supply to Bangladesh.
