The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) is gearing up to facilitate the flight operations of two new foreign carriers, Ethiopia Airlines and Air China, from next month. CAAB chairman stated that preparations are underway to turn Bangladesh into an aviation hub. Ethiopian Airlines is expected to commence direct flights between Addis Ababa and Dhaka, initially operating five weekly flights.

Air China will establish direct Beijing-Dhaka-Beijing flights for the first time, operating two weekly flights. Ethiopian Airlines plans to increase its Dhaka operations to daily flights soon. The air service agreement between Ethiopia and Bangladesh was signed in December 2023, paving the way for these operations. With its extensive network, Ethiopian Airlines aims to provide Bangladeshi expatriates with convenient connecting flights to major cities in Europe and North America. Similarly, Air China’s decision to operate direct flights aims to enhance people-to-people contact between China and Bangladesh.
