Two thermal power plants in Patuakhali’s Kalapara upazila, Payra, are nearing completion, set to boost the national grid by 1,320 megawatts by June. RNPL, alongside Payra port, promises a significant reduction in summer load shedding. Another 1,320 MW plant’s construction within Payra BCPCL has begun, aiming to meet a substantial portion of Bangladesh’s electricity needs. RNPL, utilizing ultra-super critical technology, ensures environmental balance with a 220-meter chimney and eco-friendly coal processing. Despite COVID-19 interruptions, construction progresses, with 75% completion expected soon. Scheduled for June, the plant will initially add 660 MW, alleviating summer power shortages by 100%. Payra’s existing 1,320 MW plant has already contributed to the grid since 2020. Infrastructure upgrades at Payra port anticipate increased coal shipments, ensuring continuous power generation. With timely payments, Payra aims to meet 20% of Bangladesh’s electricity demand within three years, leveraging its abundant coal reserves.
