The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has expressed a keen interest in investing in Chittagong Port to foster mutual financial benefits. During a meeting with Brigadier General (Retd) M Sakhawat Hossain, adviser to the interim government on shipping, textiles, and jute, UAE Ambassador to Bangladesh, Abdullah Ali Al Hamoudi, highlighted the expertise of DP World, a Dubai-based multinational logistics company involved in port management across over 60 countries, including the construction of the London Gateway Port.
Adviser Sakhawat welcomed the proposal, emphasizing Bangladesh’s openness to foreign investment and the strong, multidimensional relationship between the UAE and Bangladesh. He also requested the ambassador to facilitate easier transit visas for Bangladeshi sailors, which the UAE envoy agreed to consider.
Furthermore, Sakhawat encouraged UAE investment in Bangladesh’s jute and textiles sectors, citing the rising global demand for environmentally friendly jute products. The ambassador attended the meeting with a five-member delegation, which included senior officials from the ministries of jute, textiles, and shipping.
