United Commercial Bank (UCB) PLC reported a 9% year-on-year decline in earnings for the first nine months of the financial year 2023. The bank’s earnings per share (EPS) dropped to Tk 1.20 from Tk 1.31 during the same period in the previous year.
Despite this overall decrease in earnings, UCB witnessed a positive trend in the July-September quarter, with a 10% year-on-year growth in EPS, reaching Tk 0.53 crore.
One notable aspect of UCB’s performance was a substantial recovery in net operating cash flow during the first nine months of the financial year. The bank’s shares closed at Tk 12.40 on the Dhaka Stock Exchange, remaining unchanged on the last trading day before a public holiday.
UCB’s mixed financial performance, with a decline in annual earnings but a strong quarter, reflects the challenges and opportunities faced by financial institutions in a dynamic market.
