As Bangladesh transitions from Least Developed Country (LDC) status, it secures duty-free export privileges for 92% of tariff line products, including key sectors like ready-made garments (RMG), in the UK market. The UK’s Developing Countries Trading Scheme offers flexibility, ensuring duty-free access for 92% of manufactured goods post-LDC status. Additionally, the UK has committed to lifting the existing ban on betel leaf exports from Bangladesh. Commerce ministry officials revealed that the UK will extend various facilities under the Generalised Scheme of Preferences (GSP) for three years during the transition period following LDC graduation. Both countries are also discussing an expansion of agricultural product exports and emphasizing cross-border higher education rules and intellectual property rights enforcement. Bangladesh aims to further enhance its trade relationship with the UK, which has become its third-largest export destination.
