Under the initiative, which began in 2022, 7000 tonnes of plastic waste have been collected, 2000 waste workers have been trained and supported, and 100 percent of the collected plastic has been recycled.

The MoU sets a target to collect 10 percent of Chattogram’s plastic waste, improve the livelihoods of 5000 waste workers, raise citizen awareness, and formalize the informal recycling value chain. The Mayor expressed concern over the impact of plastic waste on the environment, urging collaborative action. UBL’s CEO emphasized the need to address plastic pollution and protect the environment, expressing optimism that their joint efforts would move Chattogram towards plastic circularity and a sustainable future
