The revenue authorities collected a record Tk74,000 crore in VAT from 109 companies under the large taxpayer unit (LTU), marking a 26% increase from the previous year. This growth was driven by rising prices for essential commodities, increased collections from Petrobangla, and successful dispute resolutions with mobile operators and banks.
The LTU-VAT’s revenue growth of 26% in FY24 surpassed previous records, with the tobacco sector being the largest contributor. VAT from gas and mobile phone sectors also saw significant increases. Despite this, 10 sectors, including FMCG and telecom, reported declines in VAT collection. The LTU office oversees VAT for companies with annual payments of Tk5 crore or more, and currently manages 110 companies across 37 sectors.
